Morphological and Mechanical Characteristics of Onion Seedlings Insight to Mechanized Transplantation

Background: Onion is a widely accepted as vegetable well spice crop, sharing 14.31 lakh ha area with 267.3 MT production in 2020. Improved management structure and healthy seedling are important factors overcoming the cause even developing effective transplanter. The information of morphological properties essential before designing modern farming equipment. Methods: Present study focuses on age seedlings for automated transplanting, five majorly cultivated varieties onion Light red gavran, N-53 Nasik red, AFDR, KSP-117 Nafed were selected. (height, weight, diameter) mechanical (compressive strength static coefficient friction) measured under 10 days intervals to compare 30-70 seedling. Result: Bulb stem diameter range from 2.82 3.82 mm 0.86 2.12 mm, respectively. model was found significantly different concerning days. Plywood aluminium had less influence seedling’s outer surface moisture content. parameters compressive increased while friction reduced an increase Regression ANN (using FFBP method) models developed prediction bulb respect diameter. best determination 0.76.
